Acceptance

You may be told you “have to accept something for the way it is” and this can be hard to do if you don’t like the way something is. But sometimes things are the way they are and you cannot change them no matter how sad you feel or how mad this might make you feel!!!!! Maybe you want your sister’s teddy but you are told you have to accept that it is hers and not yours.

It’s ok to tell someone how you feel about this. They can explain to you why you have to accept it. When you know that it will upset your sister if you take her teddy, then you understand why you can’t have it. You may still not like this BUT you understand WHY you can’t have it.

If someone is calling you names at school you don’t have to accept this - instead you can tell your teacher or an another adult like your parents. If someone is doing or saying something to you that makes you feel uncomfortable or sad or angry, you have to tell an adult.

Learning to accept yourself the way you are, no matter how you think you are is one of the happiest things you can do for yourself. You can learn how to do something called tapping if you find it hard to accept yourself.

Take a look at the picture of the teddy and the picture of the alien.  See which one you prefer. They are showing you where you can tap. You can go here and see Conal using tapping to get rid of his fear of getting sick in the car!!!

You can always change the words and say something like this.

Even though I do not like the way things are right now I accept that I am a great kid.

Even though I do not like the way things are right now I know things could get better.

I am going to tell someone about the way I feel.

I am a great kid.

Happy Tapping!
