Embracing being the “Square Peg!”

One definition of the saying “you can’t fit a square peg into a round hole” says that it describes the unusual individualist who could not fit into a niche of their society.

Now here my friends in my opinion is where the problem lies.

It is the use of the word “unusual” which when we are talking about a person could be better described as “unique” individual.    At the end of the day we are all unique and we are all individual.

So here’s my journey through this exact problem.

For far too many years I have being the square peg trying to fit myself into a round whole.

Why?

Because I was trying to fit into a niche of society that I felt was more acceptable.

Why again?

Because it felt safer for me to do things that other people approved of.

But, of course the problem with doing this is that what I was my not giving my soul expression and I wasn’t being authentic.

One of the most important things to realise is that it was my perception of what other people thought about what I was doing was completely wrong!   But I was so embedded in my story I couldn’t see that, and I held tight to that story and so it didn’t budge.

My first step into the world of energy medicine after a 20 year legal background was setting up a blog that I called it holisticmummy.  I used it as a space to share my new journey.

After a few years when I began doing blogging events with a local blogging agency although I loved the feeling I got when I was doing those events, I felt like such a fraud.   Nobody else thought I was a fraud of course it was just me.   I hated the name of my blog and dreaded when people asked me what the name of it was.

I had also developed a children’s website called The Mythic Fairy.  Again, someone said something to me about the name of it, it was only one person but it was a person who was close to me, and I allowed that person take my power away from me.   Again I began to dread people asking me about it.   I felt like a fraud again.

I found myself escaping and going online.   I set up a global health and wellness community online, this felt safe and was well respected and had me a finalist in a community award last year.

Whilst it was a vibrant community it was taking up a lot of my time and during lockdown last year I realised my heart wasn’t in it.   While my community is still online I just don’t give it the energy I used to.   I knew I had to start doing the work which would feed my soul and that was stepping more into my therapy work especially my shamanic soul care work and my women’s circles that I am passionate about.

If my journey resonates with you and you are trying to figure out where you fit in or belong or know that you are not on your soul path I would ask you to look at this question - who defines the round hole and why do you give it precedence over the square peg?

With the knowledge of course that it only gets precedence if you let it.

A good place to start a journey of change is to stop and look at your motivators, both your inner and your outer motivators.

If you are trying to be one thing in order to satisfy an outer motivators i.e. satisfying someone else on the outside you may not be living in alignment with your inner motivators.  Your inner motivators are those things that have you up and out and doing what you want because they bring you joy.   You might be getting outer praise and outer recognition but it will fall flat if it is not resonating with your inner motivators.

The alchemy happens when you define those inner motivators and discover the inner conflicts which stop you following them.

Both your inner motivators and your inner conflicts fight against each other all the time, both trying to win.   And they always will, and this is where the growth will always be.

When you learn to be comfortable in your uniqueness and be driven by it that’s the path of your soul.   AND whatever it is that feeds your soul does have a niche in society and when you find that niche your heart will sing.

You will feel like you have arrived and you will feel motivated to do what you want to do and you will find your tribe.

If this resonates with you, you want to find out more about the work I do and how you can work with me so that I can help you, become aligned with your soul path.

Until next time …
